Graduate Role Description

 

Civil Engineering

 

As a Graduate Civil Engineer you will be given opportunities to build on the knowledge you acquired at university and gain practical exposure across a range of projects and locations.  You’ll work on a mixture of tasks, within a variety of environments and have access to some of the most experienced people in their field.

With the backing of a strong, structured development program, you will have the opportunity to work within areas such as Engineering Delivery, Construction Projects, Rail Construction, Regional Infrastructure and Reliability. You will get the opportunities to work on a variety of projects and tasks from the structural design aspects of projects, design checks, site investigations, to providing advice to maintenance teams, implementation of designs and much more. 

Civil Engineers in our organisation enjoy a mix between office and field based work, and given access to a range of training and learning options, with a focus on building skills as well as accreditation with Engineers Australia.

Locations for our Graduate Civil Engineering roles are: Brisbane, Townsville, Toowoomba or Maryborough, with an opportunity to relocate at the beginning of each rotation.

All applicants for our Graduate Civil Engineering roles must have completed, or be completing their final year, an Australian Bachelor of Engineering degree with a focus on Civil Engineering.

 

 

Electrical Engineering

 

Graduate Electrical Engineers at Queensland Rail are given the opportunity to begin their careers across a number of business divisions and areas, spread across various locations. We often have roles located in Brisbane, Townsville and Maryborough, with an option to relocate at the beginning of each rotation.

As a Graduate Electrical Engineer you will be working within divisions such as Regional Infrastructure, Signalling Construction, Engineering Delivery, Reliability and Rolling Stock Engineering. You will be given the opportunity to work on a mixture of tasks in areas such as telecommunications and data, signalling and traction power.

With the support of a solid structured development program you will have the chance to work in a variety of environments including office, workshops and in field.  With such a variety of roles there are opportunities to use the knowledge you acquired at university in real and practical environments in areas such as design, maintenance, advice, design checks, sight investigations and many more.

In addition our Graduate Electrical Engineers enjoy access to a range of training and learning options with a focus on building skills, leading to an accreditation with Engineers Australia.

 

 

Mechanical Engineering

 

Our Graduate Mechanical Engineering roles are currently located in our Rollingstock Engineering Division and are based in Brisbane. As a graduate engineer in this area, you will work on meaningful projects to ensure that Queensland Rail’s rollingstock is capable of meeting the demands of the growing population.

The tasks you will be involved with will include the design of rolling stock components and systems, development of technical specifications and standards, procurement, testing and the commissioning of new passenger rolling stocks. You’ll also provide engineering assistance across other divisions within Queensland Rail, and in particular, to the maintenance area.

With the backing of a structured development program, you’ll work in challenging environments where diverse work is never scarce. You’ll be mechanically inclined and have great attention to detail which will complement your ability to think in a logical manner to solve problems.

In addition our Graduate Mechanical Engineers enjoy access to a range of training and learning options with a focus on building skills, leading to an accreditation with Engineers Australia.

All applicants for our Graduate Mechanical Engineering roles must have completed, or be completing their final year, an Australian Bachelor of Engineering degree with a focus on Mechanical Engineering.

 

 

Health and Safety

 

Health and Safety Graduates at Queensland Rail have the exciting opportunity to work in a diverse team, with rotations across various business areas. You will work in a mixture of environments, both office and on-site and all of these roles are based in Brisbane.

You’ll part of a team which provides professional resources for Queensland Rail in the areas of rail safety, OH&S, environment, emergency management, human factors, and AOD & fatigue management. You’ll work on defining, developing and recommending the safety direction for Queensland Rail.

You’ll be exposed to a variety of work including contributing to policy/standard writing, OH&S support at work sites, as well as the implementation of safety projects and initiatives. Project you could be involved with include the SMARTs, Integrated Management System, Train Protection, Trackside Safety, and many more.

With the support of a strong structured development program you will learn how to apply your knowledge acquired at university to a real and complex organisational environment.

All applicants for our Health and Safety Graduate program must have completed, or be completing their final year, an Australian Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety degree, or be completing their final year, an Australian degree with a strong OH&S focus, including degrees with OH&S majors.

 

 

ICT Officer

 

As an ICT Graduate you will be given opportunities to build on your university knowledge and be involved in projects across a range of areas within our business. Our IT Graduates are based in Brisbane and will work within our Application Services, Infrastructure or Customer & Delivery areas.

With the exciting changes within our organisation, there are many opportunities to work on significant projects and provide a valuable contribution to ensuring our ICT services are of the highest standard.  With excellent support and mentoring, a strong development program, as well as opportunities for both internal and external training in your specialisation, this is a fantastic opportunity to commence your career in ICT.

Current graduate roles in our ICT require people with specialisations, interests or majors in Software, Development, Customer Solutions, Business, Design, Analysis, Hardware, Server Support and Hosting.

To be successful for our program you will need to be currently in your final year of study; or have recently completed; a degree with a strong IT or ICT focus, including degrees in Business or Commerce with an IT focus.

 

 

Business Analyst

 

Graduate Business Analysts at Queensland Rail have the rare opportunity to utilise their university knowledge in areas which have broad scope across our entire business.  The projects you will be involved in with have a far reaching impact to our organisation, and assist in the mapping, creation and implementation of Business Improvement and Business Process Improvement.

Our Graduate Business Analyst roles can have direct involvement with, or exposure to, Quality Management Systems, Business Quality Systems, Business Performance, Finance, Regulation Policy, Risk & Compliance and much more.

All Graduate Business Analyst roles will require strong relationship building and analytical skills and will give you the scope of experience to develop and grow your business acumen.

All applicants for our Graduate Business Analyst roles must have completed, or be completing their final year, a degree in Commerce, Business or similar.

 

 

Accountant

 

As a Graduate Accountant at Queensland Rail, you will be based in Brisbane and complete four rotations over a two year period. You’ll work in a variety of roles within all areas of finance including Management Reporting, Financial Risk & Compliance, Planning & Forecasting, Financial Reporting & Tax, Treasury and Capital Management.

Joining a team of professionals, you’ll be involved in both day to day and long-term accounting functions. You’ll support the management of our operational accounting for our businesses, such as tax and compliance activities, and assist with the financial planning and analysis for the future of Queensland Rail.

You will develop your commercial acumen, building technical and professional skills and developing leadership potential though our structured development program. You will also receive full support to complete the CPA or CA program, formal in-house training includes ERP systems, leadership courses and much more.

All applicants for our Graduate Accounting roles must have completed, or be completing their final year, an Australian Bachelor of Commerce degree.
