Babinda Creek timber bridge replacement

Project update

Babinda Creek is part of a series of timber rail bridges Queensland Rail is replacing on the North Coast line between Cairns and Ayr. Under this program, ageing timber rail bridges will be replaced with steel and concrete structures.

Construction to replace the Babinda Creek rail bridge commenced on 1 April 2015. Replacement of the main rail bridge was completed during a planned track closure in June 2015.

Due to changes in the program and allowing for the wet season, two smaller timber structures adjacent to Howard Kennedy Drive will be replaced with concrete box culverts in late February 2016, weather and construction conditions permitting.

The local community may notice increased vehicle movements around the work zones, including the delivery of project equipment. Construction impacts may include night works, vehicle movements and construction noise. Nearby residents will be provided advance notice of any out of hours works.

Contact Queensland Rail's customer feedback team on 13 16 17 (8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday) or email communityengagement@qr.com.au.
