Unsafe behaviour

At Queensland Rail, we believe that safety incidents can be avoided. We therefore actively encourage our customers to enbrace some very important safety measures.

Railway Transport Laws help to discourage unsafe behaviour such as:

  • Crossing railway tracks other than at a designated crossing
  • Using crossings while warning signals/booms are operating
  • Riding vehicles such as bicycles, skateboards, in-line skates and scooters on a bridge or platform, or in a subway, designed for pedestrians
  • Entering or leaving a railway other than through a proper entrance or exit
  • Displaying a coloured light on or near a railway
  • Tampering with Queensland Rail property, such as buildings, or placing objects on the tracks

Failure to comply with safety laws could result in an on-the-spot fine, or in some cases, having to appear in court.

Inappropriate Behaviour

Queensland Rail is committed to ensuring that all customers feel secure and comfortable while using our rail services.

Railway Transport Laws prohibit:

  • Feet on seats
  • Drinking of alcohol
  • Smoking on trains
  • Creating a disturbance or nuisance
  • Loud music
  • Leaving bags or other obstructions in doorways and/or aisles
  • Littering

Graffiti & Vandalism

Graffiti and vandalism of property costs both Queensland Rail and the community millions of dollars each year. Wilful damage to property including both graffiti and vandalism is a serious offence which can result in imprisonment.

If you see someone who is inflicting graffiti and or vandalism on Queensland Rail property report it to Queensland Rail staff or phone 07 2602 5555.

Graffiti and vandalism includes unlawful:

  • Spraying
  • Writing
  • Drawing
  • Marking
