Queensland Rail is a vertically integrated rail business that operates a suburban and long distance passenger trains and owns a 8000km rail network throughout Queensland.
Queensland Rail manages Rail Operator access to the network in accordance with a process approved by the Queensland Competition Authority.
Only Rail Operators who are accredited by Department of Transport and Main Roads and have agreed access arrangements with Queensland Rail may access our network.
Applying for access
Rail Operators and other access seekers interested in using Queensland Rail’s network must negotiate an access agreement with Queensland Rail.
Every application for access is handled under a process agreed with the Queensland Competition Authority and further described in the Access Undertaking. The process includes requirements and timeframes.
Queensland Transport relationship (TSC)
Approximately seventy percent (70%) of QR Network’s rail corridor is supported under both the Transport Service Contract (Rail Infrastructure) and Non-Rail, Non-Operational Corridor Land contracts. The purpose of these service contracts is to provide funding support for infrastructure in areas that would otherwise not be commercially viable for QR Network. The principle aim of these service contracts between QR Network and Queensland Transport is to meet Government objectives to provide transport outcomes to Queensland.
