The Helensvale to Robina Duplication delivered a second rail line from Helensvale to Robina and reached completion in 2008.
Announced by the Queensland Government in 2003, work began on the new line in 2006. By April 2008, 7.3km of new track was constructed from Helensvale to Nerang, with the track extending another 9.3km to Robina by July that same year.
This project has resulted in more frequent and reliable train services between Brisbane and the fast-growing Gold Coast Region.
The project included:
- 16.6 kilometres of track on the western side of the existing line
- eight new rail bridges and 11 rail bridges upgraded
- new electrified track
- bi-directional signalling.
The project created around 560 jobs, directly and indirectly.
