Ormeau to Coomera Duplication

The second line from Ormeau to Coomera on the Gold Coast was one of three projects announced by the Queensland Government in 2003.

Other projects included construction of a third track between Salisbury and Kuraby on Brisbane’s south side and building a second rail line from Helensvale and Robina.

Work on the project began in 2005 and was completed in September 2006.

Together, these projects have facilitated more frequent and reliable train services between Brisbane and the fast-growing region of the Gold Coast

The Ormeau to Coomera Duplication project included:

  • 6.7 kilometres of track
  • two new rail bridges – crossing Hotham Creek at Pimpama and an adjacent waterway
  • bi-directional signalling
  • the creation of around 160 jobs, directly and indirectly.

Key information:

  • Start: 2005
  • Completed: September 2006
  • Cost: $20 million
