The Mount Isa system services the North West Queensland Minerals Province, running from the Port of Townsville to Mount Isa over more than 1000 km of track (including the Phosphate Hill Branch). A large majority of traffic in the system is mining related, particularly minerals and fertiliser.
Products that are carried through the system include minerals concentrates, fertiliser, acid, fuel, refined metals and general freight. Freight traffic shares the system with the “Inlander” passenger service and cattle trains.
