Tablelands System 

The Tablelands system runs from Cairns to Forsayth over approximately 450 km (including the Atherton Branch).  Products carried through the system are primarily sugar and molasses. Freight traffic shares the system with the Kuranda Scenic Railway and Savannahlander passenger services.

The Normanton to Croydon part of the system carries tourism passenger traffic. This 150 km corridor is stand alone, heritage-listed single track running from Normanton on the Gulf of Carpentaria to Croydon.

System maps divide Queensland Rail's network into four sections - North, South, South-East and Brisbane Metropolitan. Line diagrams detail distances, number of tracks, the type of infrastructure (eg. private sidings) and stations. In accordance with Queensland Rail's Access Undertaking the line diagrams are updated at intervals of no greater than six months.
