Queensland Rail established the Brisbane Multi-User Terminal (BMUT) at Acacia Ridge in partnership with terminal operator P&O in 2006. The terminal is Australia's first major multi-user rail terminal and is the main facility for freight to be transferred from our interstate standard gauge system to  the narrow gauge network the we manage across Queensland.

During 2006/07, the terminal processed more than 270,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU).  The containerised freight markets expected to grow substantially over the next 10 years and Queensland Rail is currently planning and assessing options to upgrade the terminal to increase capacity, maintain its safety record and improve operational efficiency.
