The SEQIPRAIL program is part of the Queensland Government's South East Queensland Infrastructure Plan 2010-2031 (SEQIP) for road, transport, water, energy, health, education and community infrastructure. The program is delivering 32 rail projects, 431 kilometres of new track and 142 new trains for South East Queensland.
As part of this plan, over $30 billion has been committed to plan and build a better rail network, helping to create a more efficient, accessible and comprehensive transport system in South East Queensland.
The SEQIPRAIL team was established by Queensland Rail in August 2005 in response to the publication of SEQIP and the South East Queensland Regional Plan. It was clear from the magnitude of the planned rail infrastructure works that a team of dedicated project managers and support staff would be needed to ensure that we deliver these projects efficiently, on time and within budget.
The program team won a 2007 Premier's Award for leadership excellence. The award recognised SEQIPRAIL’s efficient and innovative approach to delivering rail infrastructure by forgoing traditional subcontracting methods and combining a number of the rail projects into an attractive ‘alliance’ opportunity. The team has now shared its alliance methodology with other Queensland Government departments as well as with interstate infrastructure departments.
