SMS assistance for people with disabilities
Queensland Rail has introduced an SMS text messaging service for people with a disability. It was identified that the existing communication options were unsuitable for some people due to the nature of their disability, especially people who are deaf or hearing impaired. Text messaging may help to bridge the gap.
An sms message can be sent to a Passenger Service Officer (PSO) 24 hours a day, seven days per week. It can be used to make City service enquiries before, during or after a train journey. For example if a person detrained at an unattended station and wanted to know when the next train to the city would depart and from what platform, they could send an sms.
A Service Officer is alerted that a text message has arrived by a loud beeping. They will then respond to the message at their earliest opportunity. The message needs to contain as much detail as possible to enable the officer to respond effectively.
This service is intended for people with a disability. For other ways to contact us please see contact us.
