
Introduction
The Whitsundays is in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef on the Queensland coast, 150km north of Mackay and 200km south of Townsville, and ascends out of the rich blue tropical waters that lie in an archipelago of green islands and sandy atolls.
The Whitsundays emphasises relaxation and getting in touch with nature. Activities range from beach fishing to yachting to adventurous quad biking through the rainforest. The Whitsundays is a diverse destination position within the picturesque Great Barrier Reef region.
Mackay is a lush tropical region that has an abundance of significant natural attractions of National Parks, gorges, the Great Barrier Reef, tropical islands and unspoilt beaches.
The hinterland area features a range of heritage and cultural activities including gold fossicking. The region’s relaxed and welcoming people are also seen as an asset.
