Project overview
From mid-February 2016 until mid-2018, Queensland Rail will undertake essential maintenance works on the Merivale Bridge, South Brisbane.
The bridge was constructed in 1978 and is a vital link in South East Queensland's rail network.
Project works include:
- Replacement of the existing hardwood transoms (sleepers)
- Cleaning and painting the bridge deck, cables and arches
- Installation of a permanent gantry, stair access and walkway.
Project update
Scaffolding was erected in early 2016 to enable works to be undertaken without impacting rail or river traffic. At key times throughout the project, a barge was also anchored in the Brisbane River to provide personnel safe and efficient access to the bridge.
Following the main cleaning and painting activities, the scaffolding was removed in late 2017. Remaining works will be undertaken during planned track closures in early 2018.
