Timber bridge replacements (North Queensland)

Timber rail bridge at Sheepstation Creek

Project overview

Queensland Rail is replacing the timber rail bridges at Killymoon Creek, near Townsville and Sheepstation Creek, near Ayr. These bridges are a part of a series of timber rail bridges Queensland Rail is replacing on the North Coast line between Brisbane and Townsville. Under this program, ageing timber rail bridges will be replaced with steel and concrete structures.

Construction works for both bridges commenced at the start of April 2016. Replacement of the rail bridges occured during a scheduled track closure in May.

The local community may notice construction impacts including night works, vehicle movements and noise. Nearby residents will be provided advance notice of any out of hours works.

The construction of these bridges is expected to be completed in late June 2016.
