Fun for the “hole” family at Queensland Rail’s Ekka pavilion

4/08/2022

Queensland Rail is encouraging show-goers at this year's Ekka to have a hit at their pavilion which will feature “tee-rific" mini-golf fun for the “hole" family, all while delivering an important safety message.

Queensland Rail Head of South East Queensland Scott Riedel said the free mini-golf pavilion will tie in with Queensland Rail's “Travel with Care" campaign.

“You might be wondering what mini-golf and trains have in common, well, this is a fun and interactive way to teach children and the general public about rail safety," Mr Riedel said.

“The three mini-golf holes are themed around the common injury risks to customers.

“Hole one reminds customers about the importance of minding the gap.  This features two islands with a gap in the course, where players need to use the bridge to get their ball across safely.

“Hole two is all about taking care on our stairs and escalators.  On this hole players need to putt their ball up the ramp and down the stairs safely towards the hole.

“On hole three, players need to navigate their way past luggage obstacles carefully, as a reminder to take care with luggage on our network.

“There will also be a photobooth and give-aways so please come and say hello to the friendly team at the Queensland Rail pavilion!"

Queensland Rail's Travel and Tourism team will also be at the pavilion to talk about services, popular holiday packages, plus new and special fares.

The Travel with Care campaign was launched in November 2021, with eye catching images and slogans like 'Slipping at Springfield?', 'Tumbling at Toowong?' and 'Distracted at Doomben?' rolled out at several train stations.

Mr Riedel also encouraged everyone intending to travel to this year's Ekka to use the train.

“The 2022 Ekka loop services are scheduled to run approximately every 15 minutes from 9am until 11pm daily, including on the Ekka public holiday, Wednesday 10 August.  The only exception to this is that between 3.30pm and 6.30pm on weekdays, services will run half-hourly," Mr Riedel said.

“In line with Queensland Health advice, wearing a face mask is mandatory when travelling on public transport."

Customers will need to purchase their Ekka entry ticket prior to arrival at Exhibition station and those who hold an Ekka entry ticket will pay only $3 (children and concession card holders) or $6 (adults) for return travel tickets.

Please purchase these Ekka travel tickets from attended train stations only.

Ekka entry tickets can be purchased online at www.ekka.com.au
