Get prepared for the storm season

When it comes to extreme weather events in Queensland, it's not a matter of 'if' but 'when'. Severe weather events and natural disasters can disrupt services, damage our network, and disconnect our customers.

Storm season occurs from November through to April, but that doesn't mean you should wait to get storm ready. Getting storm ready is super simple and can be done with just a few easy steps.

How to be storm ready?

Have a get ready plan that reflects travel plans.
Ensure mobile devices are charged to maintain communication.
Use the TransLink Journey Planner to seek travel options in storms.
Follow instructions from Queensland Rail and Emergency Services.

MyTransLink app is available free to download from the App Store  and Google Play.

Get storm ready and avoid being caught in weather like the above.

Why do storms affect the rail network?

During storm season, there are many hazards that can affect the rail network, which is why it's important to have a travel 'plan B'. These include:

  • Loss of power
  • Objects caught in the overhead lines
  • High winds
  • Dislodged material and debris
  • Water hazards
  • Flooding

There are extra things you can do to help prevent storm damage around yours and neighbouring properties. This includes trimming back overhanging branches, picking up any debris or rubbish, and securing or putting away loose items around the yard or on balconies. It's also important to avoid parking vehicles under trees and powerlines.

Remember, even an average storm season can wreak havoc if you are unprepared. Please do not put yourself or others at risk of serious or fatal injuries. Stay calm and take the time to look around before you proceed. If it's not safe, don't do it.
