Ekka steam train 2026

Queensland Rail is bringing the past back to the people with an historic steam train running to Ekka for People’s Day.

The iconic BB18 ¼ steam engine, affectionately known as “Bety” will operate 8 special runs between Roma Street station and Exhibition station on Wednesday, 12 August giving customers a heritage journey into Brisbane’s premier show.

Last year’s Ekka Steam Train, which was the first to run since 2019, attracted more than 3400 customers with show goers and rail enthusiasts jumping at the chance to experience rail from a bygone era.

Customers will be ‘chuffed’ to learn the trip will only set them back their regular 50 cent fare to either hop on at Roma Street station to go to the show, or ride the return loop approximately every 30 mins.

Regular train Ekka loop services will also be operating around every 15 minutes on the Ekka Public Holiday, and approximately every 10 – 15 minutes on Saturdays, Sundays and weekday peak hours.

Last year’s event was very popular, so please allow plenty of time and patience and be aware that the heritage carriages have limited space and accessibility.
