Burpengary station accessibility upgrade

Burpengary station concept design (subject to change)

Burpengary station is being upgraded to make it more accessible for everyone in the community.

Queensland Rail's Station Accessibility Upgrade Program will make it easier for customers to travel on our network whether you're pushing a pram, carrying luggage, using a wheelchair or injured, you'll be able to use the station with ease.

Key features of the upgrade include:

  • A new footbridge with lift access

  • Improved accessible parking

  • Full length high-level platforms

  • Upgraded hearing augmentation loops and tactile ground surface indicators

  • Upgraded security cameras and lighting

  • New wayfinding and platform signage

  • Accessible toilets

  • Disability-compliant ticket windows

  • Improved seating and extended platform shelters

  • New station office and facilities.

Station closure and alternative transport

To fast-track construction and deliver the upgrade as safely as possible, the station is temporarily closed.

During this time, trains are running express through the station. Customers can look forward to the station reopening in the second half of 2024.

A dedicated shuttle bus service is running between Burpengary and Narangba stations to assist customers during the station closure.

Bus service information

  • Shuttle bus 661 is operating between Burpengary and Narangba stations

  • The shuttle is running every 10–15 minutes in peak hour (6am to 9am and 4pm to 6pm on weekdays)

  • Outside of peak hour, route 661 connects with arriving trains at Narangba station

  • The 661 departs from the eastern side car park of Burpengary station, off Burpengary Road

  • Existing bus route 664 is also available for customers

  • All route 661 services are accessible.

Nearby train stations

  • Morayfield and Narangba are the closest stations to Burpengary and will remain open during the upgrade works, however parking is very limited at these stations.
  • Limited parking will be available at Burpengary station for those catching the 661 shuttle.

To find your best travel option during the closure, please visit the dedicated Translink page (this link navigates to the Translink website), where you can find alternative transport options or use Translink's Journey Planner.

Project update

Customers and the local community can expect to see the following activities at the station in early-2024:

  • New station office and facilities works
  • Platform raising works
  • Service and station infrastructure works.

Works will generally take place 6am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, unless notified.

Out of hours works

Overnight works to install the new station building will take place from 12am to 6am on Friday 15 March.
Bus services will run as normal and the carpark will remain open.

There will also be out of hours works during a planned track closure from 11pm on Friday 26 April to 6pm on Sunday 28 April.
The station carpark will be closed during this planned closure.

Impacts

Every effort will be made to carry out these works with respect for our neighbours and customers.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we build a better station.

Impacts include:

  • Station closure from 22 January, reopening in late 2024
  • The carpark on the Bantry Street side is closed with some parking available from the new driveway entrance from the city end of Burpengary Road
  • Pedestrian access across the rail line is via the Rowley Road level crossing
  • Traffic changes - stop and go traffic will be located at the Rowley Road carpark entrance at times to enable works and site deliveries
  • Machinery and construction noises
  • Bright lights during night works.

For your safety, please use approved paths and follow directional signage and traffic control.
