Cyclones and severe storms can produce hail, flooding rains, lightning, and strong winds. During the storm season (November-April), it is important for customers to keep informed, have a
Get Ready plan in place in case train services are disrupted, and customers become disconnected from family, friends, or necessities.
Get storm ready by following these simple steps:
- Plan ahead by registering for storm alerts at the
Australian Early Warning Network .
- Have a
Get Ready plan that reflects your travel plans.
- Use the TransLink journey planner to seek alternative travel options in case of disruptions.
- Make sure mobile phones and laptop computers are charged to maintain communication.
- Check for changes to advertised services or alternative transport arrangements via the
TransLink website , Queensland Rail social media, or contact TransLink on 13 12 30.
- Listen and follow instructions from Queensland Rail and Emergency Services personnel on trains and at stations.
- Keep up-to-date with real-time official emergency information via the
Queensland Government Disasters and alerts website .

Staying healthy in the heat
During the warmer months, it's easy to become dehydrated or to overheat. It is extremely important to ensure you are hydrated to prevent heat exhaustion or even heat stroke. If you feel unwell at any time, please speak to a member of staff and remember that most of our stations are equipped with water bubblers.
Follow these tips to plan ahead and to stay healthy in hot weather.
- Make sure you drink enough water to replace lost fluids.
- Stay covered by wearing suitable clothing that provides good sun protection.
- Wear light and loose cotton clothes.
- Choose a broad brimmed or bucket-style hat that will protect your face, neck and ears.
- Apply SPF50 broad-spectrum water-resistant sunscreen before heading out in the sun – sunburn limits the body's ability to cope with heat.
- To keep up energy levels, eat small meals more often.
- Stay out of the sun from 10.00am to 2.00pm and reschedule household activ ities to the coolest part of the day (e.g. gardening and yard work).
- Slow it down and take it easy.
- Know the signs and symptoms of heat stress, and if in doubt, seek medical attention.

Remember, your safety is paramount. Please do not put yourself or others at risk of serious or fatal injuries. Stay calm and take the time to look around before you proceed. If it's not safe, don't do it.
