At
Queensland Rail, safety comes first—always. Through engagement and education,
our Community Education team delivers on this commitment by empowering
Queenslanders to navigate the rail network safely, and with confidence.
By connecting with communities through engaging and interactive presentations, initiatives and events, the Community Education team promotes safe behaviours and decision making around trains, on stations, and across the wider public transport network—helping to build a safer, more informed Queensland.
The Railsmart program
The Railsmart program is a free, statewide initiative designed to promote rail safety and public transport awareness. This program delivers essential safety education to kindergartens, schools, alternative learning centres, and youth and community groups across Queensland. Delivered on school assemblies, at year-level gatherings, or in classroom settings, the interactive and tailored presentations make safety engaging and relevant for all age groups.
Topics covered include:
- The dangers of high-voltage electricity and trespassing
- How to safely use level crossings
- Staying safe on platforms and avoiding distractions
- Train etiquette and respectful behaviour
- Recognising Queensland Rail staff and security for assistance
Aligned with the Australian Education curriculum, the program easily integrates into the Health, Safety, and Physical Education focus areas.
The Railsmart program is also available for and delivered to community groups throughout Queensland.
We strive to deliver a world-class rail safety education program that positively shapes community attitudes and behaviours. By working closely with schools, community groups, and stakeholders, we aim to improve safety outcomes for everyone.
