Queensland Rail has upgraded East Ipswich station to improve accessibility and make it easier and safer for customers to use.

The upgrade was part of the Queensland Rail Station Accessibility Upgrade Program, opens in new window which focuses on providing greater accessibility to rail services.

The station upgrade was designed to provide a single access path from accessible station entrances to the assisted boarding points, achieved through platform raising and upgrading accessible parking and essential station and customer facilities. These improvements support many customers using our network, such as those using mobility devices, people with hearing or vision impairment, seniors, people with injuries and those travelling with prams and luggage.

Features of the upgraded station include:

  • a new pedestrian footbridge with lift access
  • fully-raised platforms
  • a new, modern station building
  • new station entrances on Merton Street and Coronation Street
  • additional shade and shelter with a new covered area over the core zone
  • improved accessible parking
  • new bicycle enclosure
  • upgraded hearing augmentation loop and tactile platform surfaces
  • upgraded security cameras and station lighting
  • new wayfinding and platform signage.

Main construction on the accessibility upgrade commenced in August 2020.

The new station commenced operations in December 2021 and was officially opened on 21 January 2022. Supporting works, including the demolition of the old station building and platforms, were completed in mid-2022. We thank customers and the local community for their patience throughout works.
