Central station upgrade

Concept design (subject to change)

Queensland Rail has been working to upgrade the facilities at Central station, making them more reliable for customers.

Following a major upgrade, the escalators between Central station and Anzac Square Arcade reopened on Saturday 4 June 2022. The upgrade improved the safety and reliability of these escalators for our customers.

The stairs adjacent to the escalators, located between Central station, Ann Street and the Anzac Square Arcade are now closed for refurbishment, which is expected to be complete by late 2022.

Other works completed to date include the refurbishment of back-of-house facilities (with new offices, first aid area and customer communication facilities), as well as the replacement of lifts on platforms 1-4. Other improvements include new lighting, fans, cladding, painting and the replacement of roof sheeting above the outer concourse.

During works at the station, there will be occasions when the outer concourse lift (Ann Street) will be closed. Further advice will be provided at those times.

Customers may notice temporary changes to pedestrian access through the station precinct and construction noise associated with the operation of heavy machinery and hand-held tools.

The next phase of work will involve upgrading the station's outer concourse lift (Ann Street) and the lift on platform 5/6.
