Rail has been working to upgrade the facilities at Central station, making them
more reliable for customers.

the replacement of lifts on platforms 1-4. Other improvements include new
lighting, fans, cladding, painting and the replacement of roof sheeting above
the outer concourse.
The escalators between the outer concourse and Anzac Square Arcade
were taken out of service on 1 October 2021 for approximately four months while both
escalators are replaced. The upgrade will improve the safety and reliability of
these facilities for our customers.
On the weekends of 30/31 October and 13/14 November, large craning activities were carried out to remove the existing escalators and lift in the new escalators. Works will continue into early 2022, while the new motor room is established, the escalators are fitted out and connected, and upgrades are completed on the surrounding surfaces.
