Central station upgrade

Queensland Rail has been working to upgrade the facilities at Central station, making them more reliable for customers.

Works completed to date include the refurbishment of back-of-house facilities (with new offices, first aid area and customer communication facilities), as well as the replacement of lifts on platforms 1-4. Other improvements include new lighting, fans, cladding, painting and the replacement of roof sheeting above the outer concourse.

Commencing 1 October, the escalators between the outer concourse and Anzac Square Arcade will be taken out of service for approximately four months while both escalators are replaced. The upgrade will improve the safety and reliability of these facilities for our customers.

The station will remain operational throughout works.

Customers may notice temporary changes to pedestrian access through the station precinct and construction noise associated with the operation of heavy machinery and hand-held tools.

During crane lifting activities (on the weekends of 30-31 October and 13-14 November) stairs, ramp and lift access may be temporarily restricted for public safety. During this time customers are encouraged to travel to Roma Street station and seek assistance from station staff.  

Over the weekend of 13-14 November, there will be a track closure in place between Bowen Hills and Albion to Corinda, Lindum and Yeerongpilly stations. Alternate transport will be in place during this time.

The next phase of work will involve upgrading the station's outer concourse lift (Ann Street) and the lift on platform 5/6.
