Central station upgrade

Queensland Rail has been working to upgrade the facilities at Central station, making them more reliable for customers.

In April 2021, works to replace the lifts to platforms 1/2 and 3/4 were completed.

Prior to this, works were undertaken to refurbish the of back-of-house facilities with new offices, first aid and customer communication area. Other improvements have been made such as new lighting, fans, cladding, painting and replacing roof sheeting above the outer concourse.

The next phase of work will include the replacement of the escalators from the outer concourse to Anzac Square Arcade, the lift to platforms 5/6 and the lift between Anzac Arcade and Central station. 

Queensland Rail will ensure customers are kept informed of further elements of the upgrade as they are planned to occur.

Works recently completed

On 30 November 2020, the lifts to platforms 1/2 and 3/4 at Central station were temporarily closed for major upgrades. The lifts were unavailable for approximately four months while works were completed.

The lifts were taken out of service at the same time to ensure they were back in operation as quickly as possible for customers.

In early April 2021, works were completed and the lifts reopened to the public.

As timeframes for the next phase of works are finalised, customers will be notified.
