A multi-million dollar upgrade at South Bank station is now complete, which included new platform shelter and platform raising.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey thanked customers for their patience throughout construction.

“South Bank station is one of the busiest stations on the network, and a gateway to our thriving foodie and entertainment precinct," Minister Bailey said.

“It's perfect timing, right before Christmas holidays, for customers to benefit from this upgrade in rain, hail or blistering sunshine.

“Customers will notice new seating and waiting shelters, which is a much improved change, as well as new lighting, CCTV and Smart Ticketing fare gates.

“We have also fully raised the height of the platform, to make it easier for every person to get on and off the train.

“These upgrades bring the station into line with its modern surroundings, while making it more comfortable for those waiting for their train.

“A big congratulations to the team for their efforts, and our thanks to customers for their patience as we delivered this."

Queensland Rail Contract Manager Michael Rose said the upgrades meant a smoother journey for everyone in the community.

“This is a much-needed upgrade," Mr Rose said.

“It will help those using mobility devices, seniors and customers travelling with prams and luggage.

“We are pleased to announce completion of this project, for the benefit of all Queenslanders and visitors travelling to this wonderful tourist precinct.

“We thank the community for their patience during construction," he said.

Translink has installed new fare gates on platform 1 at South Bank train station as part of the upgrade works.

The gates on the main platform 1 entrance off Grey Street (Southpoint complex) were turned on earlier this month.

Fare gates on the Platform 1 entrance off Vulture Street via the ramp are scheduled to be installed and turned on in mid-December.

The South Bank station platform 1 upgrade was delivered as part of the State Government $500 million investment into rail in Queensland, supporting 250 jobs for Queenslanders.
